DB broadband enables fiber-optic connections in Cottbus

DB broadband is supporting the telecommunications provider DNS:NET in supplying 40 educational institutions and 350 other buildings, including numerous households, with high-speed Internet in the city of Cottbus. DNS:NET is building a broadband network in parts of Cottbus, also using Deutsche Bahn's fiber optic network to close its own gaps quickly and cost-effectively. Specifically, DB broadband is leasing 66.2 km of unused fiber optic cable (dark fiber) on the route between the Brandenburg town of Halbe and Cottbus to DNS:NET.

DB broadband GmbH is a subsidiary of DB Netz AG. It markets free capacity in Deutsche Bahn's fiber optic network. This network is more than 20,000 kilometers long and runs along DB's rail lines.

DNS:NET Internet Service GmbH operates its own fiber optic rings and networks. The company invests continuously in the development of underserved regions with fast Internet. This involves both the nationwide expansion of white spots and the closing of gaps in new construction projects as well as the connection of smaller towns and villages.
