DB broadband rents fiber optic cable to LEONET in Bavaria

Article: DB broadband rents fiber optic cable to LEONET in Bavaria

The Bavarian telecommunications company LEONET has leased capacity in Deutsche Bahn's fiber optic network via DB broadband. Specifically, this involves two lines totaling around 40 kilometers in eastern Bavaria. They run from the village of Niderlindhardt to Atting and from Rannersdorf to Katzbach.

Rannersdorf is a district of the town of Waldmünchen in the Upper Palatinate. LEONET will supply the town on the Czech border with fiber optics on its own account. Over 1,500 households could benefit. In the municipality of Atting in the district of Straubing-Bogen, LEONET is responsible for a subsidized fiber optic rollout for 700 households and over 60 businesses.

The connections are being made on the basis of a framework agreement already concluded between LEONET and DB broadband. DB Kommunikationstechnik was involved in the implementation. Further joint projects are already being implemented. The cooperation with DB broadband is to be continuously expanded.

By connecting to DB's fiber optic network, LEONET is further expanding its own infrastructure in Bavaria. The medium-sized company from Deggendorf is expanding steadily and extending its state-of-the-art fiber-optic infrastructure right into buildings in more and more regions of Bavaria. More than 80,000 households have access to LEONET's fiber-based services.

Dr. Christian Humpert, Chairman of the Management Board of DB broadband: "This project shows how important it is to tackle fiber-optic expansion together. Particularly in suburban areas, the use of DB's infrastructure for fiber optic expansion is an ideal solution. The resulting synergies help everyone. Above all, the residents of rural areas benefit."

Jochen Mogalle, CEO of LEONET: "The cooperation with DB broadband is helping to steadily increase the number of our fiber-optic expansion regions in Bavaria. We are pursuing an expansive growth course in which we are focusing on investment and partnerships. Only together can we swiftly master the Herculean task of supplying fiber to every corner of Bavaria."
